About SWISSDENT

SWISSDENT is an international company based in Zurich, Switzerland. It was founded in 2006 by the Swiss dentist Dr. med. dent. Vaclav Velkoborsky.

As a practicing specialist in cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Velkoborsky developed a particular interest in dental whitening procedures and has become an authority on the subject. Through his extensive research, he discovered that popular bleaching methods often have negative side effects, such as hypersensitivity and enamel damage.

Dr. Velkoborsky recognised the need for a gentle, mineralising and whitening toothpaste, and embarked in 2005 on the development of a formula which utilised the latest dental knowledge and technology and which contained only the finest ingredients. The result was a high quality, luxurious product with an innovative composition which has been patented.

The toothpaste had actually been intended as a gift for Dr. Velkoborsky’s patients, however, it quickly became so popular and was in such high demand that Dr. Velkoborsky named it ‹SWISSDENT EXTREME› and, in 2006, established a separate company for the manufacture and sale of the toothpaste. Today, SWISSDENT Cosmetics AG employs a range of specialists in the area of development of innovative dental care products and holds several patents for these products.

SWISSDENT’s secret recipe is a special combination of high-tech and natural enzymes. Bromelain and papain, derived from pineapple and papaya respectively, remove plaque naturally from the tooth surface, acting in a similar manner to an ‹enzymatic peeling›.

Responsible for the actual whitening process (i.e., the oxidation of the accumulated colour pigments) are calcium peroxide (CaO2) and Oxygard®. With the aid of cutting-edge technology, CaO2 is micronized (reduced in size) so as to ensure that it is able to effectively target those areas which will benefit from its use. SWISSDENT’s unique, patented formula provides a gentle means of brightening and cleaning teeth effectively.

All SWISSDENT products are 100% produced in Switzerland and are subject to strict Swiss quality controls.

The chart compares DDA levels of several toothpaste brands:

- The ADA (USA) recommends toothpastes with an RDA of less than 70 (red dotted line).

- Most ‹whitening› toothpastes are well over 100 RDA; Swissdent is proud to manufacture toothpastes with RDAs from 14–40.

RDA stands for radioactive dentine abrasion and measures the abrasive level of toothpastes. The higher the number, the more abrasive the product.
